Neurology is a medical specialty involving the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the nervous system. At San Diego Chiropractic Group we provide thorough neurology evaluations and cognitive testing in our office by our board certified neurologist.
In addition to evaluating and treating common issues such as headaches, vertigo, and spine pathology, we also focus on patients who may have sustained concussion injuries from automobile or motorcycle collisions. Motor vehicle crashes are the second leading causes of all TBI-related hospitalizations.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that 14.3 percent of all concussions/TBIs are the result of motor vehicle accidents. Concussions/TBIs have the potential to cause significant cognitive and physical problems, affecting a person's ability to work and do normal daily activities. As such it is critical in auto collisions where head injuries have occurred or may have occurred, to have a thorough neurological work up that may also include advanced imaging. The average neurology evaluation at San Diego Chiropractic Group is one hour and is often longer depending on the severity of the case.
“Since full recovery from serious head injuries is often not achievable, there can be a significant life-long impact from these injuries..." Dennis R Durbin, MD, MSCE, lead author of the report and co-scientific director for the Center for Injury Research and Prevention.
Common symptoms of a concussion/mild traumatic or traumatic brain injury are: excessive daytime fatigue, headaches, dizziness, light sensitivity, depression, memory and focus issues, difficulty with finding words or organizing thoughts, and patients often note their head feels foggy. Symptoms can last for short periods or can last for months or longer depending on the severity of the injury.
