Chiropractic was first discovered in 1895 by D.D. Palmer in Davenport, Iowa. It is a medicine and profession that started here in the United States and is now practiced around the world. There are several chiropractic colleges here and abroad that graduates students with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Typically, the doctorate program is four years and is usually preceded with a four-year undergraduate degree. Doctors must pass four national board examinations and then license in each state he or she wishes to practice in.
Doctors of Chiropractic must obtain 24 continuing educations hours per year in addition to continuing education in radiology and diplomate degrees, such as Chiropractic Sports Physician. Chiropractic care is safe for all ages and a thorough examination is performed prior to your first adjustment. We often use spinal x-rays to help diagnose and evaluate the spine and extremities.
A variety of chiropractic techniques allow the individual to experience gentle relief. Some adjustment techniques allow a cavitation of the joint that releases nitrogen gas, otherwise referred to as the audible noise associated with adjustments. Many techniques use tables or devices in which no audible release occurs, and these adjustments are well tolerated by even the most sensitive patients.
